What to Expect After a VI Peel®: Peeling, Recovery & Results
If you're considering a VI Peel®, one of the biggest questions I hear is, “What is my skin going to look like afterward?”
A VI Peel® is a professional chemical peel that helps remove damaged surface skin and encourages your skin's natural renewal process. Because of that, your skin will go through a short period of peeling and recovery before you see the finished result.
Here's what you can generally expect after treatment.
The First Day
Right after your VI Peel®, your skin may feel warm, tight, or a little sensitive. You may also notice some redness.
For the first part of your recovery, I recommend following the aftercare instructions you receive at your appointment. Your skin is beginning the renewal process, so this isn't the time to add extra exfoliating products or try a bunch of new skincare.
When Does Peeling Start?
Most people begin noticing peeling around 2–3 days after their treatment.
The amount of peeling can be different from person to person. Some people experience noticeable peeling, while others have lighter flaking. Your experience can also depend on the VI Peel® formulation used and how your skin responds to the treatment.
It can be tempting to help the peeling along, but don't pick or pull at your skin. Let it shed naturally.
How Long Does the Peeling Last?
For many people, the most noticeable peeling lasts around 3–7 days.
During this time, your skin may feel dry or tight. Following the aftercare routine I give you can help keep your skin comfortable while it goes through the healing process.
Can I Go Back to My Normal Activities?
Most people can continue many of their normal daily activities after a VI Peel®. However, your skin may look and feel different while it is peeling.
If you're planning an event, vacation, or special occasion, I recommend planning your peel far enough in advance to give your skin time to go through the peeling stage.
What Should I Avoid?
While your skin is healing, it's important to be gentle with it.
Avoid picking or pulling at the peeling skin, and follow the skincare and sun-protection instructions you receive after your treatment.
Your skin can be more sensitive during this time, so I wouldn't recommend adding unnecessary irritation by using harsh products or exfoliating on your own.
When Will I See Results?
The results don't happen all at once.
Once the peeling is finished, you'll start to notice your skin looking smoother and brighter. The changes happen gradually, so don't worry if you don't see the final result right away.
Everyone's skin responds differently, and your results will depend on your skin, the concerns we're treating, and the VI Peel® formulation selected for you.
How Can I Take Care of My Skin After a VI Peel®?
The most important thing is to follow the aftercare instructions I give you for your specific treatment.
In general, that means being gentle with your skin, keeping it moisturized as directed, and being consistent with sun protection.
If you have questions during your recovery, don't hesitate to reach out. I'd much rather you ask than try to guess what your skin needs.
Is a VI Peel® Right for You?
A VI Peel® can be a good option for people who want to improve concerns such as:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne
Acne scars
Hyperpigmentation
Sun damage
Uneven skin tone
Rough skin texture
Everyone's skin is different, so the peel I recommend for you may not be the same one I recommend for someone else.
At Revital Glow Aesthetics & Wellness, I'll evaluate your skin, talk with you about your concerns and goals, and help determine which VI Peel® treatment makes the most sense for you.
